Gilmer’s 1974 Datsun 260Z

This is Gilmer’s take on the 260Z platform. He has owned this car for close to 10 years. It was not until September of 2016 that he decided to do a full restoration on the car. This process took a total of 3 years before the car was even moving on its own again. This really is amazing to see!

The entire car was sandblasted to perfection, with a ton of body work being done to bring it back to near stock condition. New frame rails were installed, and the entire undercarriage was caked in Rhino coating. Gilmer also made sure that the colour of the car continued throughout the interior and undercarriage. He also had a sound deadening kit installed for comfortability within the cars interior.

With regards to the engine, it is a fully rebuilt L28Et, from the bottom end, all the way to the head. The car is turbo’d currently running a T3/T4. Can’t forget about the transmission though. Gilmer currently carries a fully rebuilt T5 Borg Warner with a Z31 CLSD R200 diff.

The suspension is completely custom work from Techno Toy Tuning. These include welded camber plates all around, welded adjustable coilovers with swift springs and adjustable Koni shocks. GTX2 front lower control arm, inner and outer tie rods, evolved knuckles, rear lower control arm, together with a mustache bar and dogbone, are also included in the suspension set up. The chassis is even being supported with a T3 rear Tri bar and a ST front 2” sway bar.

To further the platform and handling, Gilmer opted for a full Wilwood BBK setup, with rear emergency brake functionality. The braking system is also supported by the 1'“ Wilwood MC and a 10” 280sx booster.

Can’t have a car without fuel right? Well this 260Z is being fed by a Deatschwerks Pump, while being regulated by a Fitech surge tank with no return line. The fuel management system is being supported by a Megasquirt ECU from Protunerz, with a custom engine harness

Last but not least, the interior has been equipped with brand new carpet all around, new vinyl and headliner. As Well as a fully restored dash from Just Dashes. The custom pods and gauges in the dash are from Speedhut, and the seats and frame rales are none other than LS Recaro

This build deserves some love for sure! If you like what you see, make sure to give Gilmir a follow on Instagram @project_260z.
