Datsun 620 X Miata

Here we have one of the sickest submissions we’ve received at Orukana so far. Everyone meet Mr Brandon Wells and his insane Datsun truck build. Brandon has written this submission in its entirety.

To start I wanna say that this build would never have been on the road again without the help of my dad. Although I tackled all the fabrication on this thing, with all the work my dad has put into this build it is just as much his as it is mine.

The build is a 1977 Datsun 620 drift truck with the entire powertrain and suspension out of a 1990 Mazda Miata. I bought the truck back in 2017 and drove it around with minor modifications like lowering blocks for about 2 years.

At that point I came across a $400 no title "running and driving" Miata on Facebook marketplace and thought the engine swap would be a good candidate. I was wrong. I went down the rabbit hole and ended up turning a decently simple swap into a 3 year completely custom fabrication job.

The original frame of the Datsun is gone and it has been replaced with a custom tube frame/roll cage with the subframes from the miata bolted in. Basically a go-kart with a Datsun on top.

I am also running a turbo 1.6l motor. At the moment it is on jank ebay coilovers off of the donor Miata. Its running on Cosmis xt006rs that are 18x11 +8 with 40mm adapters all around. 275/35 in the front. 315/30 in the rear. To fit these the entire firewall and floor pan was cut out and shifted back by about 6 inches and the floor pan was custom made.

Other mods include; Braum fixed back sears, a Momo steering wheel, SpeedyEFI ECU, 440cc Mazda RX8 injectors, MSD Upgraded fuel pump, fuel cell, AEM wideband, Mishimoto radiator, and a welded differential
